Witnesses state that the fire originated in the Fish Creek area on the afternoon of May 1st, leading to traffic delays in the vicinity. It has been reported that both the northbound Rose Prairie Road and a section of Cecil Lake Road are obstructed due to the fire. Dawson Road Maintenance – North Peace, responsible for road maintenance in the North Peace region, has alerted drivers via Twitter that Jones Subdivision and O'Large Roads are also closed. The BC Wildfire Service currently estimates the fire's size at 20 hectares, with human activity suspected as the cause. Staff from BCWS have assigned a number to the fire, and crews are on-site to combat the flames, with the Fort St. John Fire Department leading the efforts. Additionally, the BCWS is providing air tanker support to help control the fire.
