In 2023, Egypt's museums proudly showcased 'Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs' in Australia, drawing unprecedented crowds—the highest attendance in the history of the Australian Museum.

Yesterday in Cairo, the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC were once again welcomed by Ramses—this time, a remarkable 83-ton, 3,200-year-old statue of Rameses II—located in the entrance hall of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Invited to explore this new, culturally significant institution, the museum has been designed to preserve over 700,000 years of rich and intriguing history and culture—situated near the Great Pyramid of Giza—and with the utmost care and respect for each artefact.

Egypt has consistently fascinated Australians, and we are thrilled that many thousands will visit the fully operational museum when they come to see the pyramids starting in July this year.
