Yesterday, in Gangwon State, South Korea, I had the honor of joining Governor Kim Jin-tae to commemorate 50 years of friendship between Alberta and Gangwon by unveiling new signage at the Alberta Pavilion located in Alpensia Resort. This occasion marks the first visit by an Alberta Premier in over two decades, following Premier Ralph Klein's visit. While our sister province relationship has primarily centered on education, culture, and sports, we are eager to broaden our collaboration into sectors such as health and life sciences, technology and innovation, and to explore enhanced trade in sustainable energy, including LNG.

Additionally, we toured the Naver Data Centre, where we discussed the reasons why Alberta is a premier destination for data centres, attributed to our cool climate, dependable energy supply, and skilled workforce. This experience reinforced our commitment to fostering a strong partnership in the digital economy, where Alberta's unique strengths can support the growth of South Korea's tech industry.

During our meeting, we explored opportunities for joint research initiatives in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and renewable energy. We also discussed the potential for Alberta-based companies to partner with Korean firms to develop innovative solutions for the global market. Furthermore, we recognized the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges, particularly in the fields of education and skills training, to ensure that our workers are equipped to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

As we move forward, we are confident that our strengthened partnership will yield tangible benefits for both Albertans and the people of Gangwon Province. By working together, we can create new opportunities for trade, investment, and knowledge sharing, ultimately driving economic growth and prosperity for our regions. This 50-year milestone serves as a testament to the enduring power of international cooperation and our shared commitment to building a brighter future for generations to come.
