Medication and supplement recalled in Canada due to dosing inaccuracies

A bottle of melatonin pills is displayed in New York on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Health Canada has announced two distinct recall notices due to issues related to incorrect dosing—one concerning melatonin supplements and the other regarding acetaminophen tablets.

Consumers are encouraged to inspect their medicine cabinets and verify product information to mitigate potential health risks.

The first recall pertains to specific lots of Life Brand Time Release Melatonin 10 mg, a widely used supplement for sleep assistance.

Health Canada has indicated that certain lots of this product may have erroneous dosage instructions on their labels, which could result in consumers inadvertently taking either more or less melatonin than intended.

The lot numbers affected are: 4D3965YA2, 4F4495YA2, 4F44961B0, 4F44962LH, 4H49262LH, and 5C47764ES.

In a separate recall, Riva Acetaminophen 500-mg tablets may actually contain 325-mg tablets, representing an underdose for individuals depending on this medication for pain or fever relief.

This product is distributed by Laboratorie Riva Inc., and the problem arises from incorrectly labeled tablet strength.

Consumers who have acquired this product should verify the lot number marked as D3120.

In both instances, Health Canada recommends that consumers cease using the affected products immediately and consult a healthcare professional if they have any concerns regarding symptoms or the effectiveness of their medication.
