In light of recent killings in Ondo State attributed to herdsmen, President Bola Tinubu has been urged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to declare a state of emergency in the region. The PDP made this appeal on Tuesday, emphasizing the urgent need to address what it termed as senseless killings.

In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, the party accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of failing in his primary responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the citizens as the Chief Security Officer of the state. The party expressed grave concern over the governor's apparent indifference, particularly regarding his alleged inaction towards the herdsmen's activities.

Igbabo urged Aiyedatiwa to fulfill his responsibilities and refrain from politicizing the security crisis, stating that the number of killings is alarmingly high and reflects a lack of control and effectiveness from the state government. "The PDP Ondo State Chapter finds it hard to understand how these attackers have been able to operate with impunity for months in a state that supposedly has an effective government in place," he expressed.

Furthermore, the party's statement seeks to draw President Tinubu's attention to these brutal and unjustified killings, highlighting the state government's inability to confront this escalating threat. Under the current circumstances, the party advises Mr. President to consider declaring a state of emergency due to the growing insecurity in Ondo State, especially if the state government continues to show an inability to stop the ongoing violence, which jeopardizes not only Ondo but the entire Southwest region.
