In recent months, I, along with many of my fellow Premiers, have been diligently working to persuade U.S. officials at all levels about the detrimental impact that proposed tariffs would have on both Canadians and Americans.

I have consistently urged these officials to avoid imposing any tariffs on Canadian products until a proper renegotiation of CUSMA can take place after our federal election, with a Prime Minister who has received a mandate from Canadians to engage in discussions with the U.S. President.

With the election now underway, I would like to reiterate my hope that the United States will choose not to impose tariffs on its closest ally and largest trading partner during this election period.

Myself, along with the overwhelming majority of Albertans, are understandably concerned about the vulnerability and weakness that the Liberal Government has left our country in after a decade of anti-resource development policies. I have yet to see any substantial commitment to reversing these policies that would justify granting them a fourth consecutive mandate. Ultimately, however, that decision rests with the Canadian people.
