Sonia Bompastor continues to make her mark in English football, facing no obstacles in her path—neither a managerial change at Manchester City, nor a remarkable individual goal from Aoba Fujino, nor even the subpar pitch conditions. The French coach remains unbeaten in her 28 matches at the helm of Chelsea and has secured the first trophy in what could be a historic quadruple season. 

Chelsea's 26th win of the season took place on a pitch that midfielder Erin Cuthbert described to the BBC as unworthy of a final. Bompastor, who had anticipated better facilities for her inaugural final in English football, echoed this sentiment. "It is unfortunate to have such a pitch for a final, especially in England, where one expects the finest playing surfaces in the world," she remarked. "I doubt the same conditions would be tolerated for a men's final." 

This match marked the 14th edition of the contemporary Women's League Cup final, and the inaugural final held at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium featured a significantly superior playing surface. Rachel Brown-Finnis, a former England goalkeeper and current television pundit, criticized the pitch as substandard. 

Derby directed questions to Women's Professional Leagues Limited, which seemed to assert that they had chosen a venue capable of providing a high-quality pitch.

Nick Cushing, the interim head coach for Manchester City, did not intend to use the pitch conditions as a justification for the defeat, stating that he expected the surface at their own Joie Stadium to be better when the two teams meet again in the second of four consecutive matches against each other.
