Operation CARIBBE commenced in November 2006 and is part of the larger US-led initiative, Operation Martillo. In 2010, Canada and the US signed a Memorandum of Understanding that permits US Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments (LEDETs) to operate from Canadian naval vessels and aircraft during Operation CARIBBE. By integrating USCG LEDETs aboard Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ships during Operation CARIBBE, the CAF enhances its support for this multinational counter-narcotics operation. Operation CARIBBE involves deploying RCN vessels and Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft to identify and monitor illegal trafficking activities in both the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean. In 2024, the HMC Ships Margaret Brooke, Summerside, Edmonton, and Yellowknife successfully intercepted 2,710 kilograms of contraband and illegal substances as part of Operation CARIBBE. Operation CARIBBE highlights Canada's dedication to addressing security challenges in the region, supporting global efforts against organized crime, and halting the flow of illegal narcotics into Canada, the US, and North America.
