The Nordic diplomatic missions to Somalia commemorate International Women's Day ✨💜 This week, the embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Nairobi united to honor the leaders, activists, and change-makers dedicated to advancing gender equality.

🎤 The event commenced with an engaging panel discussion featuring Somali representatives who are at the forefront of promoting gender equality and peacebuilding:

🔹 Sahra Ahmed Koshin – Founder of the Somali Gender Hub
🔹 Fartuun Adan – Executive Director of the Elman Peace and Human Rights Centre
🔹 Dr. Nimmo Osman Elmi – Senior Research Fellow at The African Center for Tax and Governance
🔹 Mohamed Abdullahi – Founder and Director of Agents of Peace

The dialogue emphasized actionable steps to dismantle obstacles to achieving gender equality. Our panelists provided valuable perspectives on the significance of education, enhancing women's participation, and acknowledging the impact of cultural transformations on gender roles.

🌅 Following the panel, we gathered for Iftar, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity, which was followed by a lively celebration of Somali culture through music and dance 🌙

🌍 Gender equality is a fundamental principle in the Nordic region and a shared focus in our collaboration with Somalia. Women across Somalia and its diaspora are spearheading change as entrepreneurs, educators, activists, and policymakers. Their contributions are vital for creating a more inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous society.

👏 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our panelists, partners, and everyone who participated in amplifying the voices of Somali women and change-makers who are driving progress.
