A recent incident involving a Tesla Model X has caught the attention of law enforcement in Burnaby. According to the Burnaby RCMP, it was not breadcrumbs that led them to a hit-and-run suspect but rather a distinct trail of fluid left behind at the scene.

On February 10, officers were called to investigate a report of a driver who had struck two parked vehicles near McKee Street and McGregor Avenue before fleeing the scene.

Authorities found two key pieces of evidence: a portion of the vehicle's fender marked "Model X" and a trail of fluid that led away from the area.

"Investigators followed the fluid trail to an alley, which ultimately led them to a residential property," reads a Monday statement from the police.

The owner of the Tesla was apprehended for not staying at the scene of the accident, and both the vehicle and its dash cam footage were confiscated.

"This was a fluid investigation, and our officers simply followed the evidence," said Cpl. Mike Kalanj in the statement. "While 'X' didn't mark the spot, 'Model X' certainly helped our officers identify the suspect vehicle."

The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
