Today, Premier Doug Ford mentioned the possibility that Alberta might one day need to approve a federal tax on oil and gas being shipped from Alberta to the United States. I've also heard that our new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has had similar thoughts.

Let me make one thing crystal clear: Alberta will never agree to such a nonsensical and detrimental proposal.

It's simply not an option. I won't endorse anything that could jeopardize the jobs of hundreds of thousands of Albertans—and Canadians—essentially overnight.

That would be akin to slapping export tariffs on Ontario's auto parts, which is also a terrible idea.

There are numerous constructive ways for Canada and Alberta to collaborate in urging the U.S. President to reevaluate tariffs, but this is definitely not one of them. Period.
