President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to European leaders during a summit in Brussels focused on bolstering support for Ukraine.

"Throughout this entire period, including last week, you have stood by us," he stated. "These are not mere words; we genuinely feel your support."

In response, Russia reiterated its stance against the presence of European troops in Ukraine following any peace agreement, labeling it as a "direct war."

UK officials indicated that approximately 20 nations are considering joining the "coalition of the willing" to assist Ukraine, although this may not involve troop deployments.

Zelensky arrived in Brussels shortly after a Russian missile struck a hotel in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih, where Western humanitarian workers were residing.

A survivor present during the missile strike informed the BBC that he believes the attack was intentionally aimed at aid workers.

The Ukrainian leader warmly greeted European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The reception President Zelensky received from his European counterparts today starkly contrasted with the treatment he experienced at the White House less than a week ago.

However, orchestrating such displays of unity is the simpler task; the more challenging issue lies in addressing how Europe will compensate for the gap created by President Trump's cessation of aid to Ukraine.

This pressing short-term concern is currently under discussion, while the 27 leaders are also strategizing on how to evolve Europe's defense industries in the coming years.

Public spending constraints are being reconsidered, discussions of loans amounting to hundreds of billions of euros are underway, and stringent borrowing regulations may be relaxed.

"Five to midnight," "decision time," "moment of truth"—these are just a few of the phrases EU leaders are using.

Yet, the critical question remains: how will these declarations be transformed into concrete actions? The results of today's emergency meeting may disappoint those anticipating significant announcements.
