P.m of Papua New Guinea, and His Excellency Mr. John met

The Honourable James Marape, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, and His Excellency Mr. John Ma'o Kali, the High Commissioner, were welcomed to Admiralty House in Sydney by the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC. As our Pacific neighbour nears its 50th anniversary of independence, the Governor-General sent the best wishes of all Australians to the people of Papua New Guinea.

The gathering combined the customary ceremonial elements of a leader's summit with a contemporary, cozy taste that symbolizes the ties that bind our countries together. The Prime Minister gave the Governor-General a stunning painting of the Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise, the national bird of Papua New Guinea, while the Governor-General gave the Prime Minister a Sydney Swans jacket. After that, the Governor-General went for a walk with the PM and his group down to enjoy the stunning vista from the harbor's coastline.
