By carrying 1,500 people and 400 cars, the 130-meter-long ferry will improve communication between Gotland and the Swedish mainland. Austal's shipyard in the Philippines will start construction in early 2026, and delivery is anticipated by mid-2028. In keeping with international decarbonization initiatives, the ship will use a multi-fuel propulsion system that uses gas and steam engines to minimize emissions and maximize efficiency. The ferry, which was constructed using green aluminium, has been approved by the DNV to run on hydrogen and gas. HÃ¥kan Johansson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget, highlighted the project's contribution to sustainable maritime transportation, establishing Horizon X as a turning point in the sector's shift to climate-neutral operations.
