A $15 billion coal lawsuit is coming up, and the former energy minister of Alberta is being compelled to testify. In 2022, when the UCP administration changed its mind about reopening coal mines in Alberta, Sonya Savage was the country's energy minister. The businesses are claiming over $15 billion in damages from the province. They contend that their assets were "de facto expropriated" as a result of the decision to stop mines from proceeding. It is anticipated that the court case will start in April.
