The African Union (AU) and the Federal Government of Nigeria have inked a deal for the provision of Strategic Sea Lift Services for humanitarian efforts, peace support missions, responding to natural disasters, and personnel transportation around the continent. The agreement was signed by Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the African Union's Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, and Nigeria's Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, on behalf of the nation. Important Aspects of the Agreement
 1. The Nigerian Navy is required under the agreement to supply a ship for AU peace operations on a cost-recovery basis.
2. Leading Nigerian authorities were present at the signing, including:
 A. Prince Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Justice and Attorney General
B. Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs C. Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff
 D. Ambassador Muhammad Muhammed, Director-General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency

The dedication of Nigeria to regional security President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) for passing important security measures and praised the deal. To improve counterterrorism efforts in West Africa, among other measures, the Nigerian National Counter-Terrorism Centre was upgraded to a Regional Counter-Terrorism Centre. Tinubu also praised the extension of the Multinational Joint Taskforce's mission, which is essential in combating violent extremism and terrorism in the Lake Chad region. Nigeria's critical role in regional peacekeeping is further strengthened by this accord,  counterterrorism, and humanitarian operations across Africa.
