To be clear, Trump has not declared a change in official policy regarding Ukraine; however, the mere suggestion that the United States may reconsider its role has prompted European leaders to rush to Paris for an urgent summit. As Trump-Putin negotiations draw nearer and Washington suggests it may not continue to fund this battle, Macron has called on the EU to decide how to react. Europe has relied on America's unending financial support for Ukraine's war effort for many years. Now that Trump may be altering his mind, EU leaders are suddenly recognizing that they may have to deal with this on their own. The plea for "European unity" by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski sounds a lot like "How can we pay for what happens if Trump ceases to write checks?
