Europe's  comprehensive efforts to  fix everything from carbon neutrality to social  inequality have been hailed as  a model for the rest of the  world.Not a valid attachment ID.
Today, some of those efforts are  about to be abandoned, the first domino  to fall as the region weighs its  response to the wave of global deregulation unleashed by Donald Trump's return to the White House. 
The European Union is  set to propose  reducing some environmental, social and governance  requirements that have been criticized for  imposing significant compliance costs on companies with limited  profits.
The details of Brussels' plan to  address those shortcomings  remain shrouded in mystery, even  as countries  pushing for change  are reluctant to  sell out on climate. But with the bloc's economy rapidly falling behind the rest of the world, many experts see the so-called omnibus package as a key step  toward restoring competitiveness when it  is unveiled on  February 2. 26.
