German  elections: 6 months of border controls  launched
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that border controls in Germany will remain in place for another six months. Meanwhile, the leader of the far-right AfD  party has travelled to Budapest to meet  the Hungarian Prime Minister.

German Chancellor Olaf has announced an extension of  border controls  across the country's borders for another six  months.
Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD)  party's Alice  Weidel is in  the running to  become prime minister.
Their meeting comes less than two weeks  before German federal  elections on February  23. The AfD is currently in second place  in the polls, with around  20 percent, behind the conservative CDU/CSU  bloc.
