President  Trump's suspension of foreign aid to many countries, especially  in Africa, is  a good thing. It will force us, as  black Africans, to  look inward and by looking inward, we will find  local solutions to our  problems. Necessity is the mother of  invention!
It is like refusing to  breastfeed your child or constantly giving  him a bottle. That child will  have a hard time weaning and  maturing.
President Trump and the United States are  focusing on their domestic  problems under an  America First policy. We, as Africans, should  also focus on Africa as a priority. But when we  offer visa-free access  to Europeans,  Americans and  Canadians, but  impose heavy visa burdens on our  African peers and trade  more with other races than with ourselves, we should not complain when Trump does what he has to  do.
Every year, the African continent earns  about $3.2 billion from coffee and cocoa exports,  mostly to Europe, while Germany  earns $4 billion  from the re-export of refined coffee and cocoa from  Africa.
That is how they  receive the aid they give  us.
As Africans,  let us stop begging and start  pocketing our resources so that  we too can  boast like Trump.  Reno Omokri
