The first cases of Chinese  metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been reported in Hong Kong,  after China declared a  public health emergency over the outbreak.
Neighboring countries are urging their citizens to remain vigilant as concerns grow  about the virus, which primarily targets the respiratory  system.
HMPV poses the greatest risk to  the elderly and children under five, making these groups particularly vulnerable.
Mask  use is gradually returning to some parts of the United States.
