According to the Gun Violence Archive, so far in  2024, there have been  approximately 16,000  gun deaths -  not including suicides -  in the  United States.
Researchers say there have  been about 500 mass shootings so far this  year.
The numbers are actually  down from pandemic-era highs of more than 20,000 deaths and more than 600 mass shootings in 2021 and  2022.
But the  figure would still be enough to put the  United States at the top of the list of countries where gun violence kills the most  people. Countries like Venezuela and El Salvador have higher  rates of gun deaths per capita than the  United States. But rates are much lower in Canada and other developed countries in Europe, according to Pew  Research.
