I'm happy to announce, as leader of the United Conservative Party, that the UCP government in Alberta asked the Lieutenant Governor to dismiss the writ for the Lethbridge-West by-election earlier today. Since the NDP vacated this seat on July 1, 2023, we are proud of the work that UCP MLA @neudorf_ab (Lethbridge-East) has done for the residents of Lethbridge-West. In addition to saving Alberta taxpayers money, holding two by-elections simultaneously should increase voter turnout in both ridings because of the excitement it would create. Sadly, he has yet to indicate that he intends to run for office, and after 151 days, it appears that he has no interest in serving in the legislature. The government decided to call the by-election today because it is required by law to do so within six months, and that date is drawing near. Like other Albertans, Lethbridge residents want their government to put public safety, affordability, economic growth and job creation, is dedicated to lowering taxes, and is prepared to implement the drastic changes our health care system need to enhance services for Albertans. We're excited for this by-election and think our UCP Candidate @jmiddletonhope, a current city councillor and former chief of police, is the best candidate for the position, even though the NDP has held this seat for many years and won it by 2500 votes the last time.
