Anti-Black prejudice is pervasive in Canada's legal system.
A groundbreaking report from the Black Class Action Secretariat reveals systemic anti-Black discrimination in Canada's federal public sector. It demonstrates how Black leaders have had to deal with an extremely hostile atmosphere that is characterized by threats, cruelty, abuse, subordination, insubordination, intimidation, unfounded grievances, and constant harassment. Dr. Rachel Zellars wrote the paper, which was presented to government representatives this week.
It comes after numerous prior reports that exposed widespread systemic discrimination against Black employees in the federal government. Black employees retaliated in 2020 by bringing a historic $2.5 billion class action lawsuit. Canada has fought Black workers in court for more than $10 million, arguing that workers should seek restitution in the same systems that discriminated against them .
