According to reports, a Russian court has ordered Google to pay $20 billion for censoring YouTube content.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a Moscow court ordered Google to pay $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 for blocking Russian media sites on YouTube.
According to many reports, a Russian court has ordered Google to pay $20 billion in US dollars after blocking a number of the nation's media outlets and TV networks on YouTube.

The fine is a 37-digit number, with 20 and 33 zeros attached. According to Russian news agency RBC, a Moscow court imposed the exorbitant amount after 17 of the nation's TV broadcasters and media outlets were prohibited from YouTube, which is owned by Google.
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin's 2022 order to invade Ukraine, the channels were blocked. The penalties is not greater than a googol, which has 100 zeroes, but it is far greater than Google's $2.15 trillion market value.

Originally known as "BackRub," Google's moniker was derived from the word "googol" in 1997, according to Business Insider.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told NBC News, "Even though it is a specific amount, I cannot even say this number, it is rather filled with symbolism." "Our broadcasters shouldn't be restricted from using the company's platform. The Google leadership ought to be motivated by this to take notice and make things better.

On Thursday, USA TODAY reached out to the Kremlin and Google, but did not immediately hear back.
"8,000 North Korean troops in Kursk could join the war in Ukraine in days," said Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Google's Russian fine may increase.
According to NBC News, the lawsuit against Google started in 2020 when the internet behemoth blocked channels owned by oligarch Konstantin Malofeev and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the mercenary leader of the Wagner Group and a staunch ally of Putin. When YouTube removed other channels after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the lawsuit grew and the fine rose, according to the site.

Alphabet: "We are dealing with ongoing legal issues concerning Russia."
After ending around 3% higher Wednesday when the firm announced its quarterly earnings, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, saw a 1.2% decline in premarket trade.

"We have ongoing legal matters relating to Russia," Alphabet stated in the "Legal Matters" section of its third-quarter earnings report. For instance, in relation to disputes over the termination of accounts, including those of sanctioned parties, we have been subject to civil judgments that involve compounded fines.

"We do not believe these ongoing legal matters will have a material adverse effect," Alphabet continued.
