Oguejiofor Simonpeter, a returnee from Thailand, was detained by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for importing 13.30 kg of heroin valued more than N3.192 billion.

On October 7, 2024, Oguejiofor was apprehended while trying to smuggle drugs out of the airport. The drugs were hidden in six backpacks, which were subsequently placed into two large suitcases.

The suspect departed Thailand on October 3 on a Qatar Airways flight, according to a statement released on Sunday by the agency's spokeswoman, Femi Babafemi. He stayed in Doha for two days before continuing on to Lagos, with his luggage being sent to Accra, Ghana, the suspect's initial destination.

He called the airline to request that his bags be rerouted to Nigeria after arriving in Lagos on October 5.thought he could bypass security checks by picking them up as rush bags in a short while.

However, he was stopped at the departure by NDLEA personnel.

Upon searching his two luggage, it was discovered that each box contained three empty backpacks, all of which had a sizable amount of heroin neatly sewed to them. Following that, the six shipments were found, weighing a combined 13.30 kg gross.

According to Babafemi, Oguejiofor claimed to have received a $7,000 offer to sell the drugs to Ghana and Nigeria.
