EDMONTON — Later this month, Albertan nurses will cast their votes about the suggested settlement reached between the mediator and their employers.

On October 30, there will be an online ratification vote, according to the United Nurses of Alberta.

It states that the mediator is suggesting large increases to some pay premiums and pay increases ranging from 12 to 22 percent over a four-year period.

The Alberta government's current offer is 7.5% over four years, but the union was demanding 30% salary increases over two years.

Because recent contract negotiations with the province had been bogged down by differences over staffing and compensation, nurses had been considering their options, including a potential strike vote.

Over 30,000 nurses are represented by the United Nurses of Alberta and five employers—including Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services—are parties to the proposed agreement.
