Inmate dies following assault at Toronto jail, another prisoner charged

A 69-year-old prisoner was fatally beaten in custody late last week, and a 54-year-old inmate at the Toronto South Detention Centre has been charged in relation to the incident.

The incident occurred on October 3 at the correctional institution located in south Etobicoke at 160 Horner Ave., which is south of the Gardiner Expressway and east of Kipling Avenue.


According to police, the victim was hurt and sent to the hospital; nevertheless, on October 4, the next day, he passed away.

The man has been identified as Toronto resident Euplio Cusano, 69. Cusano is the 70th murder victim in the city this year.

Ivan Ademovic, 54, of Toronto, was accused of manslaughter on Sunday. On October 7, he is expected to appear in court.
