AP/UNITED NATIONS According to Norway's foreign minister on Friday, European, Arab, and Islamic countries have started an endeavour to fortify support for a Palestinian state and its institutions and get ready for life after the war in Gaza and the worsening crisis in Lebanon.

According to Espen Barth Eide, "there is a growing consensus in the international community that we need to establish a Palestinian Authority, a Palestinian government, and a Palestinian state— and the Palestinian state has to be recognized." This consensus includes countries in the Global South, the Middle East, and Western nations.

According to Eide, a number of concerns need to be resolved, such as normalization and acceptance of Israel and the Palestinians' security interests of relations after decades of conflict and the demobilization of Hamas as a military group.

"These are pieces of a bigger puzzle," Norway's chief diplomat said. "And you can't just come in there with one of these pieces, because it only works if all the pieces are laid in place.

It's unlikely that Netanyahu will budge.
Even if the problem is solved, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is unlikely to be interested in it. Nevertheless, Eide thinks that "we need to take a new approach" to discussions after decades of fruitless or stagnant efforts.
