"A Spectacular Storm Chase in Southern Saskatchewan: Shelf Cloud Encounter South of Stockholm

Yesterday's forecast models hinted at intense storms developing between Weyburn and Estevan, with a trajectory towards Whitewood. I couldn't have asked for a more accurate prediction. Finishing work at 5 PM, I didn't have the luxury of targeting a specific location for my storm chase. However, Mother Nature had other plans, and I was in for a treat.

I kicked off my chase from the Haas Nissan parking lot, where I witnessed a mesmerizing shelf cloud approaching from the west. The sky took on an unusual yellowish hue, and visibility was slightly reduced due to the lingering wildfire smoke. After gathering my gear and refueling, I opted to pursue the storm near Weyburn, hoping it would follow the predicted path towards Whitewood.

By 8:10 PM, I found myself south of Stockholm, face-to-face with an incredible, ground-hugging shelf cloud. I tracked the storm until around 9 PM, when it began to dissipate, and the darkness made it challenging to continue. As the chase came to an end, I couldn't help but feel exhilarated by the experience.
