Delivering Hope and Empowerment to Niger State

Today, I, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, had the privilege of visiting Niger State, where I witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of recent tragedies, including the flood, fire outbreak, boat accident, and banditry attacks. My heart goes out to the people of Niger State, and I extend my deepest condolences to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and the entire state.

In response to these calamities, the Renewed Hope Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Nigerians, is donating ₦1 Billion, 2,000 bags of rice, clothing, and shoes to support displaced families, particularly in Mokwa, where over 159 lives were lost and thousands were affected. This donation is a humble attempt to alleviate the suffering of those affected and provide them with a glimmer of hope in these trying times.

Furthermore, I am pleased to announce the launch of the RHI/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Empowerment Programme, which aims to empower 500 women in Niger State and 18,500 nationwide with ₦50,000 grants each to support their small businesses. These grants are not loans; they are a testament to our conviction that when you empower a woman, you uplift a nation.

During my visit, I also had the honor of paying respects to two esteemed former Heads of State, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and conveyed the warm regards of my husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Today's visit was more than just a gesture of sympathy; it was about giving hope, restoring dignity, and reminding one another that we rise by lifting others. As the First Lady of Nigeria, I am committed to working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our citizens and empower them to build better lives for themselves and their families.
