The James Webb Telescope has revealed the most extensive map of the universe to date, covering more than 13 billion years.

The largest map of the universe to date has been unveiled by scientists using data from the James Webb Space Telescope. This map, created by the Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) collaboration, displays nearly 800,000 galaxies crammed into a minuscule area of the cosmos. The map spans approximately 13 billion years of cosmic time, offering an unprecedented look at the early universe.

The COSMOS field, a patch of sky devoid of nearby celestial obstructions, was surveyed by the Webb telescope over the course of 255 hours. This region is ideal for deep-field observations due to its clear line of sight, allowing astronomers to peer into the distant universe with minimal interference from foreground objects. The map produced from these observations covers an area of sky equivalent to three moon widths and includes galaxies that existed when the universe was a mere fraction of its current age.
