India has targeted a Canadian politician on Canadian territory, which constitutes an act of war.

Balpreet Singh's Opening Statement:

Thank you all for joining us today. We stand before you as a coalition of Sikh organizations, united in our resolve to address the alarming revelations regarding the surveillance of our esteemed Canadian politician, Mr. Jagmeet Singh. This act, which we believe to have been perpetrated by an agent of the Indian government, is not only a blatant violation of Canadian sovereignty but also a direct attack on the democratic values we hold dear.

The Sikh community in Canada is deeply disturbed and feels a profound sense of betrayal. Targeting Mr. Singh on Canadian soil is not just an act against one individual but a declaration of hostility against the entire Sikh community and the principles of freedom, justice, and equality that we stand for.

We demand the following actions from the Canadian government:

Firstly, we call for a full and transparent public inquiry into this matter to uncover the extent of India's transnational repression. It is essential that we understand the depth of this breach and the potential threats it poses to our democratic institutions.

Secondly, we demand an immediate end to all intelligence-sharing agreements with India until such time as we are assured that Canada's national security is not being compromised and that our government is not complicit in these egregious actions against Canadians.

Lastly, we insist on concrete measures to safeguard the rights and security of Canadian Sikhs. This must include enhancing protection for individuals who speak out against human rights abuses in India and ensuring that our community's activities are not unfairly scrutinized or vilified.

Canada prides itself on being a bastion of democracy, where individuals from all walks of life can participate in public discourse without fear of retribution from foreign governments. This incident is a stark reminder that we must remain vigilant in protecting our democratic values.

We call upon the Prime Minister and all Members of Parliament to stand with us in condemning this act of aggression and to take the necessary steps to prevent any future occurrences. The integrity of Canada's political system and the safety of its citizens are at stake.

Thank you.
