On the evening of Democracy Day, Vice President Sambo represented President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR at a public lecture commemorating Nigeria's 26th Democracy Anniversary, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria.

In his remarks, he stated that history has chosen to pass the baton in the quest for the essence of democracy to one of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola's most trusted associates, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, decades after the June 12 incident.

He emphasized that while hope is something they could neither take away nor extinguish from the ultimate narrative of Abiola's life, it is the belief in the promise of Abiola's vision that has revitalized the nation's hope in what he referred to as "the great theatre of providence."

He characterized the late MKO Abiola as a patriot who gave everything he possessed for the soul of Nigeria, and whose sacrifice has become the guiding principle of the nation's democracy.
