The Saskatchewan NDP Official Opposition shares your pain and stands with you in the wake of the catastrophic wildfire that has ravaged your community. The heartbreaking scenes of destruction, where once stood a vibrant townsite filled with memories and livelihoods, are a stark reminder of the unpredictable and devastating power of nature.

Our thoughts are with all those who have lost so much — the cabin owners whose summer retreats and year-round homes have been obliterated, the local businesses that have suffered irreparable damage, and the Indigenous families whose traplines have been decimated. The cultural and generational significance of this area is immeasurable, and the loss of such a cherished part of Saskatchewan's landscape is deeply felt by all.

We are incredibly grateful to the tireless efforts of the firefighters and other first responders who have worked under extremely challenging conditions to contain the blaze and keep residents safe. Their valor and commitment are a testament to the spirit of service that defines our province.

However, we have heard the cries of anguish from the community, echoing the sentiments of abandonment and neglect. The government has a duty to provide not only immediate relief but also a clear and comprehensive recovery plan that addresses the long-term needs of the residents.

Too often, we have seen the tragic consequences of wildfires in our province, and we recognize that the path to rebuilding and healing will be a long and arduous one. The Official Opposition will not stand idly by as you face this daunting challenge. We will persistently advocate for the necessary resources, support, and communication to ensure that East Trout Lake can rise from the ashes.

We demand that the provincial government treat this crisis with the urgency and respect it deserves. The community should not be left to navigate the complexities of recovery alone. It is imperative that a coordinated and timely response be implemented to address the multifaceted impacts of this disaster.

We understand that the road ahead is fraught with uncertainty, but we assure you that we will stand alongside you as you rebuild your lives and restore your beloved community. The Official Opposition is committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring that the voices of East Trout Lake are heard.

Together, we will work towards a future where the strength and resilience of Saskatchewan's people shine through the ashes, and the beauty of East Trout Lake is restored for generations to come.

In solidarity,

The Saskatchewan NDP Official Opposition
