Women cautioned that weight-loss injections could impact contraceptive pills.

The UK's medicines regulator, the MHRA, has warned women using weight-loss jabs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro that they must use effective contraception while taking these medications, as their interaction with the contraceptive pill is not fully understood.

The MHRA states that it is unknown whether these drugs could harm an unborn baby, and the contraceptive pill may not be absorbed properly due to potential side-effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a slower stomach emptying process. As a precaution, women should use contraception while on these medications and for certain periods after stopping them before trying to conceive.

This advice comes amid concerns that the growing popularity of 'skinny jabs' is leading to unsafe use and inadequate information about their impact on other medications and health conditions. The regulator has received around 40 reports of pregnancy-related issues through its Yellow Card scheme, prompting it to issue the guidance to ensure users are aware of the potential risks and the need for careful planning if they wish to become pregnant.
