Canadians have shown mixed opinions regarding whether to consider the United States an ally or an adversary.
In a recent Leger poll conducted between May 30 and June 1, 2025, Canadians have expressed a divided view on the status of the United States as either an ally or an enemy country.

The survey included over 1,500 participants and found that almost a third of Canadians see the U.S. as a neutral nation, with 27% considering it an ally and 26% viewing it as an enemy. The poll also indicated differences in perception along gender and political party lines, with a higher percentage of men and Conservative party supporters seeing the U.S. as an ally, and more women and supporters of the Liberal and NDP parties regarding it as an enemy. The percentage of Canadians viewing the U.S. as an enemy has decreased since mid-March, which may reflect a change in the political climate or a reduction in hostile rhetoric from the White House regarding trade issues. The survey comes as President Donald Trump has recently increased tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50%, prompting Canada to consider its response to protect national interests.
