The People's Coalition Government has endorsed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Australian Government concerning Maritime Security and the Guardian-Class Patrol Boats (GPBs). This MOU builds upon the initial agreement signed in 2020 and aims to enhance Fiji's maritime capabilities.

The Australian support, as per the new MOU, will be directed towards ensuring the operational readiness of Fiji's GPBs with an annual funding of approximately A$4 million for planned maintenance. This represents an increase of A$1.5 million from the current provisions. Furthermore, Australia will continue to provide an additional A$480,000 for fuel and provisions during Fiji's participation in regional multilateral exercises and operations. The enhanced cooperation reflects the strengthening relationship between the two nations in the realm of maritime security and underscores their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Pacific region.
