York Regional Police have announced the results of a months-long operation named "Project Madruga," which led to the seizure of a significant quantity of raw fentanyl and several firearms. The investigation, which was focused on a drug trafficking ring in Georgina, Ont., resulted in the confiscation of approximately 1,400 grams of raw fentanyl. This is a substantial amount, considering that just a few milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal. The operation also led to the discovery and confiscation of 15 firearms. The police have not yet released further details regarding the arrests or the exact location of the seizures, but the news conference indicated that the operation was successful in disrupting the activities of this particular criminal group. This is an ongoing effort by law enforcement to combat the fentanyl crisis and reduce the availability of this highly dangerous opioid on the streets.
