Gender equality is a fundamental aspect of human rights and a cornerstone of a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. By empowering women and girls, we unlock the potential of half the global population, leading to significant improvements in society as a whole. Here are the nine targets for achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls:

**Target 5.1: End Discrimination Against Women and Girls**
- Advocate for laws and policies that promote gender equality.
- Challenge stereotypes and biases in media and daily interactions.
- Support organizations that fight discrimination in all its forms.

**Target 5.2: End Violence Against Women and Girls**
- Educate yourself and others about the various forms of violence, such as domestic abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
- Report any incidents of violence against women and girls to the appropriate authorities.
- Support organizations that provide shelter, counseling, and legal aid to survivors of gender-based violence.

**Target 5.3: Eliminate Harmful Practices**
- Raise awareness about harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation.
- Advocate for the enforcement of laws that prohibit these practices.
- Support initiatives that provide alternatives to families and communities that engage in these practices.

**Target 5.4: Value Unpaid Care and Domestic Work**
- Acknowledge the significant contribution of women in unpaid care work.
- Advocate for public policies that support a better balance between work and family life.
- Encourage men to share domestic responsibilities equally.

**Target 5.5: Ensure Women's Full and Effective Participation in Decision-Making**
- Support women's leadership in politics, business, and other areas of public life.
- Encourage more women to run for public office and vote for female candidates.
- Advocate for quotas and affirmative action to ensure gender balance in decision-making roles.

**Target 5.6: Universal Access to Reproductive Health and Rights**
- Educate yourself and others about sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Advocate for comprehensive sex education and access to family planning services.
- Support the rights of all women to make informed decisions about their own bodies.

**Target 5.7: Equal Rights to Economic Resources**
- Support women's entrepreneurship and access to credit and loans.
- Advocate for equal inheritance rights and access to land and property.
- Encourage fair labor practices and support businesses that treat their female employees equitably.

**Target 5.8: Promote Women's Access to Technology**
- Support initiatives that provide women and girls with access to education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
- Encourage the development of technology that addresses gender disparities.
- Use technology to amplify women's voices and support gender equality campaigns.

**Target 5.9: Adopt and Strengthen Gender Equality Policies and Legislation**
- Stay informed about gender equality policies in your country.
- Participate in public consultations and advocate for gender-sensitive laws and policies.
- Support international treaties and agreements that promote gender equality.

3. Challenge gender stereotypes.
4. Combat harassment in all settings.
5. Seek out female mentors and leaders.
6. Share domestic responsibilities.

By working together and taking action on these targets, we can create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive, leading to a more just and equitable society for all.
