The Canadian High Commission has honored Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria, with a Certificate of Recognition for his exceptional contributions to the global fight against transnational crime.

This recognition underscores the significant role that the EFCC has played in combating financial crimes, vehicle trafficking, online exploitation, and drug smuggling, thereby bolstering security and justice on an international scale. The certificate was presented by the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Pasquale Salvaggio, in a ceremony held at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja.

Salvaggio praised Olukoyede's leadership and the EFCC's critical role in disrupting organized criminal networks that operate across national boundaries. He highlighted the strong partnership between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Nigerian law enforcement agencies, which has been instrumental in achieving substantial results such as asset recovery, financial restitution, and the dismantling of cross-border criminal syndicates. The High Commissioner specifically mentioned "Operation Hot Wheels," a collaborative effort between the EFCC and the Nigeria Customs Service, as a prime example of their successful joint operation in disrupting a major vehicle trafficking network.

Olukoyede expressed his gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the fight against organized crime. He acknowledged the increasing sophistication of such crimes and stressed the need for strategic alliances among countries to effectively counteract these global threats. He also assured the Canadian government of the EFCC's commitment to further enhanance the partnership and to work towards more significant outcomes in the future.

The event also honored other Nigerian law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Nigerian Police. The High Commissioner's comments underscored Canada's appreciation for the collaborative efforts between the two countries and its desire to continue strengthening these ties to ensure global security and protect the communities affected by transnational crime.
