A woman from Calgary has been charged in connection with a dental insurance fraud

A woman from Calgary has been charged in connection with a dental insurance fraud case. Authorities allege that she submitted fraudulent claims that resulted in losses nearing $30,000.

The Calgary police, in collaboration with an internal investigator from the insurance company and dental consultants, reviewed numerous claims and found that between January 2013 and January 2023, the accused submitted false billings for endodontic, restoration, and extraction procedures.

All claims were linked to the same dentist at All About Family Dental, located at 7520 Elbow Drive S.W. Evidence has indicated that the personal information of five patients was misused to file these fraudulent claims.

Following the investigation, Alena Vladimiro SMADYCH, aged 55, was arrested on Monday, March 31, 2025, and charged with one count of fraud exceeding $5,000.
