* President Bola Tinubu addressed Nigerians on August 7, 2024, amid nationwide protests against economic hardship. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens, especially the youth, and expressed regret over the loss of lives and destruction of properties during the protests. Tinubu called for an immediate suspension of the protests and encouraged dialogue. He highlighted his administration's efforts to address economic challenges, including:

_Economic reforms:_ Removal of fuel subsidies and abolition of multiple foreign exchange systems to block smugglers' profits and undue subsidies to neighboring countries.
_Revenue growth:_ Aggregate government revenues have more than doubled, reaching over 9.1 trillion Naira in the first half of 2024.
_Debt service reduction:_ From 97% to 68% in 13 months, freeing up resources for essential social services.
_Infrastructure development:_ Ongoing projects include roads, bridges, railways, power, and oil and gas developments.
_Youth empowerment:_ Initiatives like the student loan scheme, Consumer Credit Corporation, and Skill-Up Artisans Programme.
_Minimum wage increase:_ Signed into law, raising the minimum wage to N70,000 per month.
_Housing initiative:_ Renewed Hope City and Estate, aiming to complete 100,000 housing units in three years.
_Food production:_ Incentives for farmers, removal of tariffs on essential food items, and mechanized farming equipment imports.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration is working hard to improve the economy and create opportunities, urging citizens to look beyond current temporary pains and aim for the larger picture.
