Nigerian fraudsters, known as "Yahoo boys," are finding new ways to evade law enforcement and continue their illegal activities. They are now seeking spiritual protection to hide their identities and are using various tactics to conceal their involvement in cybercrime.

One suspected Yahoo boy, Marcel, shared his experience with EFCC officials raiding his neighbor's apartment. He quickly hid his phone, which contained evidence of his fraudulent activities, in the toilet pipe to avoid being caught.

Many Yahoo boys are now disguising themselves to avoid detection. Some dress modestly, while others pretend to be professionals or use fake identities. They also use coded language and slang to communicate with each other.

The EFCC has been raiding hotels and arresting suspected Yahoo boys. In one recent operation, they arrested over 50 suspects, including a soon-to-be groom who was celebrating his bachelor's eve at a club.

Yahoo boys are also using religion to their advantage. Some attend white garment churches, where they believe they can receive spiritual protection. Others perform rituals to protect themselves from law enforcement.

The EFCC is aware of these tactics and is working to combat them. The agency's spokesman, Dele Oyewale, noted that impersonation and identity theft are common charges levied against Yahoo boys.

The desire for a fast life and economic hardship are driving many youths into cybercrime. Economist Oluwaseun Wusu noted that unemployment and economic hardship are major factors contributing to the increase in fraudulent practices.

In conclusion, Yahoo boys are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their tactics to evade law enforcement. However, the EFCC is working to stay one step ahead and bring these fraudsters to justice.
