The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Bennett Igweh, has urged residents of Abuja to abstain from the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024:

-Igweh said that the police have made significant efforts to ensure security in the FCT, adding that the protest could jeopardize it.
-He urged the FCT residents to ensure the nation's capital remains safe by shunning the protest.
-The appeal comes amid rising tensions and widespread frustration over the country's economic challenges.
-The protest organizers have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the government's handling of issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the cost of living.
