FOUR years ago, as the United States and various other nations were taking steps to address online offenses related to child sexual abuse, exploitation, and the sharing of non-consensual material, the Ethics Committee of the Canadian House of Commons issued unanimous calls for action urging the federal government to enforce current laws that safeguard Canadians' rights to privacy and consent, while ensuring that corporations are held accountable to guarantee:

🔹All individuals featured in online material give their consent prior to any uploads.
🔹Canadians who are victims of an image or video shared without their permission have the right to have that material removed immediately and should be presumed to be non-consensual.
🔹Platforms, such as Mindgeek/Pornhub, should be held responsible for not preventing the upload of, or ensuring the prompt removal of, child sexual abuse content or any material uploaded without the awareness or consent of all involved parties.
🔹Engagement with survivors, child advocacy organizations, victim support services, and law enforcement should take place before any laws or regulations regarding the protection of privacy and reputation on online platforms are implemented.
🔹Establish a legal framework that mandates internet service providers to employ available tools to combat the persistent re-uploading of illegal content and to hire, train, and adequately supervise staff for effective moderation and removal of content.

The profit derived from exploitation and sex trafficking must be eradicated. Survivors are entitled to justice.

Common-sense Conservatives will enforce current laws, impose harsher penalties for offenders and gangs, eliminate the revolving door of repeat violent criminals through incarceration instead of bail, and prioritize the rights of victims, survivors, and law-abiding Canadians to eradicate crime.
