The Atlantic division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), in collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency, has successfully confiscated more than $100,000 in counterfeit currency originating from China.

This operation was the result of a lengthy investigation that led RCMP officers across various jurisdictions to track down the counterfeit bills and prevent their distribution.

"Regrettably, counterfeit currency is circulating throughout the nation," stated Cpl. Mitch Thompson from the Commercial Crime Section in a press release. "When printed on polymer, certain counterfeit notes can appear authentic if one does not closely examine the security features present in genuine currency."

During the investigation, authorities identified that the counterfeit money was intended for delivery to a location in Nova Scotia. Consequently, the RCMP in the Glace Bay area, near Sydney, prepared to conduct a raid.

On February 11, officers executed a search warrant at a residence, uncovering holographic stickers, approximately $70,000 in counterfeit bills, electronic devices, and a rifle. The investigation by the RCMP in Nova Scotia is ongoing.

For businesses that accept cash, the RCMP advises vigilance regarding the security features of currency.

"In Canada, it is illegal to knowingly use or possess counterfeit money," they emphasized.
