With Prime Minister Mark Carney now officially sworn in, his immediate priority should be to initiate a general election.

I am deeply troubled that this cabinet comprises many of the same ministers who have been accountable for the most detrimental government policies imposed by Ottawa on Alberta throughout our over century-long history. We are profoundly apprehensive that the proposed substantial increase in the industrial carbon tax will adversely affect Alberta's economy, similar to the impact of the consumer carbon tax.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister has yet to denounce several harmful policies, including:

- The proposed emissions cap, which continues to jeopardize our energy sector.
- Bill C-69, which remains an obstacle to essential infrastructure projects.
- Ineffective bail policies that endanger our communities, compromising the safety and security that Albertans rightfully expect.
- Gun bans that unfairly target responsible hunters and sport shooters.
- Open border policies that permit over 2 million individuals to enter Canada annually.
- The plastics ban, which threatens billions of dollars in investments and thousands of jobs.
- Bill C-59, which restricts businesses from discussing their environmental objectives.
- The Electric Vehicle mandate, which requires that all new vehicles sold be electric by 2035.
- The Sustainable Jobs Act, which seeks to transition energy workers to a net-zero economy while effectively shutting down the energy sector.
- The Clean Electricity Regulations, which will render our electricity grid significantly less reliable and increase electricity costs by 35 percent.

Our province has consistently been at the forefront of innovation, economic development, and responsible resource management. We will persist in advocating for our industries, opposing policies that unjustly target Alberta, and striving for equitable treatment within Confederation. The Prime Minister must prioritize Canada and promptly call for an election to ensure that the leadership of this country is backed by a four-year mandate from all Canadians, particularly in the context of the ongoing tariff dispute.
