The prosecution and defense have jointly recommended a 17-year sentence for an individual who pleaded guilty in connection with one of Canada's most significant drug busts. This operation resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 15 kilograms of fentanyl and three kilograms of cocaine, marking it as one of the largest drug seizures in the country.

During a court session in London on Thursday, it was revealed that the estimated street value of the confiscated drugs amounted to approximately $3.2 million.

Authorities in Sarnia and London previously indicated that this seizure would significantly impact the local drug trafficking operations.

On February 17, 2023, members of the Sarnia Police Service displayed the items recovered during "Project Oasis" in Sarnia, Ontario. The court was informed through an agreed statement of facts that the investigation commenced in 2022, following reports to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) regarding an unidentified male known as 'Osama' who was allegedly trafficking cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine in the London and Sarnia areas.

Undercover officers later identified 'Osama' as 24-year-old Taymoor Pasha.

In January 2023, law enforcement swiftly executed operations at two locations—one on Mornington Avenue and another on Cheapside Street. At the Cheapside address, police apprehended Pasha and seized the drugs.

The court learned that Pasha frequently traveled between London and the Sarnia border to facilitate his drug-related activities.

On November 15, Pasha entered a guilty plea for one count of possession of drugs with the intent to traffic.

During the sentencing hearing on Thursday, Pasha expressed remorse, stating to Justice Michael Carnegie, "I made the biggest mistake of my life... for the shameful actions I committed."

In a joint recommendation, Federal Crown Vince Mazza and defense attorney Ricardo Golec have requested that Pasha be sentenced to 17 years in prison. Justice Carnegie is anticipated to deliver his ruling on April 17.
