🩸 @lifebloodau and @redcrossau urgently require an additional 800 blood donors *each day* for the next week to help replenish the supplies that have been affected by the recent donor centre closures due to ex-Cyclone Alfred.

Giving blood is an extraordinary way to show compassion for others. Statistics reveal that one in three people will need blood at some point in their lives, and each donation has the potential to save three lives, especially during emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments, childbirth, and various medical scenarios.

Today, the Governor-General, accompanied by her aides-de-camp; Captain Katie Higgins, Lieutenant Tiffany McCormack, and Flight Lieutenant Jamie Thanjan, took an hour out of their busy schedules to visit Lifeblood in Garran, ACT, to donate blood and plasma.

The process was quick and painless, complemented by a delightful post-donation milkshake, and the Lifeblood team was exceptional. The Governor-General enjoyed engaging with regular donors, learning their reasons for giving repeatedly and the impact they have made in saving countless lives.

In her role as Patron of the Australian Red Cross, the Governor-General is urging those in areas unaffected by ex-Cyclone Alfred to step up and donate, while many donors and volunteers in Queensland and New South Wales focus on supporting their families and communities during this time.

If you are a regular donor, thank you for your commitment!
